Santiago recognizes doctors from the UASD class of 1982 for their career and contributions to health
The City Council of Santiago de los Caballeros paid an emotional tribute to nine distinguished doctors who graduated from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in 1982. This recognition, held in the framework of the 44th anniversary of their graduation, celebrates the positive impact these professionals have had on the health sector both nationally and internationally.
The distinction was made official through resolution number 3528-26, approved by the Municipal Council following a request submitted by the MED-UASD 82 Organizing Committee and supported by Mayor Ulises Rodríguez.
Distinctions awarded
During the ceremony, the awardees were invested with honorary titles for their tireless work:
- Adoptive Children: Dr. Elicia Novas Mateo de Velásquez, Dr. Fausto Antonio Hernández Alberto, Dr. Marino Pérez Abreu, Dr. Pedro Celestino Vargas Colón, and Dr. Nixara Mariel Rodríguez Inocencio de Castellanos.
- Distinguished Children: Dr. Juan Bautista Espaillat Fernández, Dr. Nelson Rafael Leonidas Grullón Estrella, Dr. Víctor E. Peralta Sánchez, and Dr. Wilhelm T. Lawrence Riggio.
For Santiago, it is a source of pride to recognize you as Meritorious Children and Adoptive Children, because this tribute represents our gratitude for 44 years of dedication, sacrifices, and service to the health and lives of Dominicans.

Mayor Rodríguez highlighted not only the medical excellence of this group, but also the strength of their bonds of friendship and their ethical commitment to Dominican society for more than four decades of uninterrupted practice.
Santiago as the anniversary host city
Although the graduating class usually holds its annual meetings in the Eastern region, on this occasion they chose Santiago de los Caballeros as the venue. As the honorees explained, the decision was motivated by the remarkable progress the city has shown in terms of modernization, urban organization, tourism, and culture.
Doctor Marino Pérez, representing his colleagues, expressed gratitude to the city council and highlighted the warmth with which they were received. For her part, the vice president of the Municipal Council, Yudelka Castellanos, emphasized that this recognition is a sign of the gratitude the city feels toward those who have dedicated their lives to providing hope and medical care to thousands of families.
The protocol ceremony was attended by Vice Mayor Mariana Moreno, Secretary General Arismendi Dajer, council members, and various municipal authorities, who accompanied the award recipients in a day that reaffirmed the value of Dominican medicine.
