Transformation at INTRANT: New licensing system generates RD$300 million in profits

The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) has reported a significant change in its finances following the implementation of a renewed system for the issuance and renewal of driver’s licenses. In a period of five and a half months, the institution has managed to generate nearly RD$300 million in profits for the Dominican State.

This result marks a turning point compared to the previous model, which, according to official data, was incurring estimated losses of RD$20 million per month. The new management has managed to reverse this deficit, turning an area that previously represented an economic burden into a source of positive revenue for the public coffers.

Efficient management and operational modernization

Since the system came into effect on March 3, 2026, INTRANT has processed the issuance of 329,727 licenses. This progress is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at digitalization, the strengthening of internal controls, and the optimization of public resources.

We received a licensing system that represented approximate losses of RD$20 million per month for the State. Five and a half months later, we have issued 329,727 licenses and generated nearly RD$300 million in profits. This demonstrates that when public resources are managed with planning, controls, and efficiency, it is possible to transform a burden for the State into value for society.

Milton Morrison, Executive Director of INTRANT

Impact beyond finance

The reform promoted by the entity is not limited solely to the collection aspect. According to the institution, the main focus has been to raise quality standards in citizen service and strengthen road safety. Among the highlighted improvements are:

  • Comprehensive modernization of issuance and renewal processes.
  • Expansion of service coverage in various provinces of the country.
  • Implementation of greater controls and traceability in documentation.
  • Strengthening of technical requirements and evaluations for drivers.

The executive director, Milton Morrison, emphasized that public administration must be capable of improving the user experience while protecting every peso of the Dominicans. Under this premise, the INTRANT has reaffirmed its commitment to continue with the digitalization and control of processes to guarantee sustainable results in the long term.

With these actions, the organization seeks to consolidate transparent and efficient management, adapted to current mobility needs and the rigorous compliance with the regulations in force in the country.
