Three alleged assailants die after confrontation with Police in Azua
An attempted robbery at a branch of a remittance company at kilometer 11 of Sabana Yegua, in the province of Azua, ended in an intense police pursuit that resulted in three men dead, one detained, and one fugitive. The incident, which mobilized units of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) and the Preventive Police, has caused shock in the area.
Timeline of the confrontation
The official report indicates that the individuals attempted to break into the commercial establishment. Although they did not manage to complete the theft of money, before escaping, they stripped the local security guard of his service weapon and personal belongings.
After a search operation was activated, the authorities located the suspects in the vicinity of the Estebanía bridge. At this point, an initial exchange of gunfire occurred where one of those involved lost his life and another was captured by the agents.
The pursuit extended to the municipality of Palmar de Ocoa, where the remaining suspects, who were traveling in a white Honda CR-V SUV, were intercepted. In this second confrontation, two other subjects were seriously wounded, later dying while receiving medical attention at a health center.
Seized evidence
During the operation, law enforcement forces managed to seize an arsenal and various tactical equipment that were allegedly to be used by the criminal gang. Among the evidence seized are:
- A rifle and three pistols of various brands.
- Two bulletproof vests and balaclavas.
- Two Honda CR-V vehicles.
- Ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and five cell phones.
- Tools such as zip ties and other personal items.
The authorities are keeping the search for the fifth member of the group active, while the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues with the investigations to clarify the details of this attempted robbery and determine the origin of the seized weaponry.
The National Police reiterated that the seized items, including the vehicles and weapons, are already in the custody of the competent authorities for the corresponding legal purposes.
