The Indiana Pacers did it again!
After being down by 15 points in the final quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Pacers staged an epic comeback, securing the victory thanks to a shot by Tyrese Haliburton with 0.3 seconds left.
This triumph marks the latest game-winning shot in an NBA Finals game since the one made by Michael Jordan in Game 1 of the 1997 Finals.
The Pacers managed to stop the Thunder on the next possession, sealing a 111-110 victory on Thursday, surprising their rival and taking a 1-0 lead in the Finals. It is important to note that Indiana did not lead the scoreboard until Haliburton’s shot. This playoff season, the Pacers have overcome five 15-point deficits, the most for any team in a single postseason since 1998.
The 15-point comeback ties the biggest fourth-quarter win in the last 50 years of the Finals. The coach in the most recent case before Thursday was Pacers coach Rick Carlisle.
Haliburton has five field goals that tie or give the lead in the last five seconds of the fourth quarter or in overtime during the playoffs, tied with Reggie Miller for second place since at least 1997.
The Pacers’ amazing comeback in the postseason generated reactions in the sports world.
