Juan Soto progresses in his recovery: Starts running program

Dominican outfielder Juan Soto has taken a significant step in his recovery from a right calf injury by starting a running program. This progress brings him closer to his return with the New York Mets. The news was confirmed by the team owner, Steve Cohen, after the 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a result that prolonged the Mets’ losing streak. Soto suffered the injury on April 3 in San Francisco. Previously, he had been doing baseball activities, including indoor batting practice. The start of the running program is crucial for his rehabilitation, as his return will depend on the full recovery of his speed. Although the exact time for his return is not yet defined, it is estimated that he could rejoin within two to three weeks. The team could consider alternative methods for his preparation, such as facing minor league pitchers in simulated sessions at Citi Field, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Soto’s return would represent a significant boost for the Mets, who have struggled offensively in his absence, scoring two runs or less in five of their last six games. Before his injury, Soto was one of the team’s most outstanding hitters, with a .355 average, a .412 on-base percentage, and a .516 slugging percentage, as well as a home run and two doubles in eight games. Soto’s evolution will be fundamental to the Mets’ aspirations of improving their performance this season.
