BALTIMORE – Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz showed admirable strength by returning to his duties after suffering multiple facial fractures and a jaw injury. The incident, one of the most shocking in his career, did not stop him. Last Monday, during the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Albernaz was hit by a foul line. The hit required his immediate transfer to a medical center. Medical examinations revealed at least seven facial fractures and one in the jaw. Fortunately, surgery will not be necessary. Less than 24 hours after the accident, Albernaz showed up at the stadium again. Despite the visible bruises, his spirits were good and he was ready to continue with his responsibilities.The incident occurred near the dugout railing. After the impact, Albernaz covered his face and retreated to the tunnel before receiving medical attention. Despite the initial severity, he overcame the concussion protocol and underwent further evaluations. During his hospital stay, he communicated with his family and received support from the players. Infielder Jeremiah Jackson, who hit the home run, gave him the ball from the grand slam he hit in that same game, accompanied by a message of apology. Albernaz watched the game from the hospital and was discharged that same night. Although he will have to follow a special diet while he recovers, he feels better and ready to lead the Orioles.
