Alcaraz starts his participation in the Conde de Godó Trophy with a victory

Barcelona – Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz successfully debuted at the Conde de Godó Trophy, defeating Finn Otto Virtanen, who came from the qualifying round, with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. The match, although favorable for Alcaraz, presented unexpected challenges. The world number two committed 32 unforced errors, an unusual figure in his performance, and required medical assistance for discomfort in his right wrist.

“It’s taken a little while, it’s complicated to get good feelings at the beginning. The only contact has been an hour this morning. It’s taken me a while to find the rhythm, but I’ve managed to adapt to the conditions in Barcelona and I’ve ended up playing at a good level,” expressed the tennis player.

Alcaraz acknowledged that the short rest time after the Masters 1,000 in Monte Carlo, where he fell in the final, and only one training session on the Barcelona clay, influenced his initial performance. The tennis player from Murcia highlighted the importance of the public’s support, which filled the Rafael Nadal court, and downplayed the discomfort in his right wrist, attributing it to the physical effort involved in clay court play. Alcaraz assured that these discomforts are recurrent and trusts that they will not affect his participation in the next match against the Czech Tomas Machac, in the round of 16.
