Gary Colin’s relatives question police version after death in operation in Santiago

In Santiago de los Caballeros, the death of 35-year-old Gary Colin has sparked strong controversy. Friends and family of the foreign national have categorically rejected the official version provided by the National Police, which links the man to the death of a security guard during an alleged robbery in the Jacagua area.

According to the testimonies of those who knew Colin, he was in the city solely for work reasons. They state that the deceased was a construction worker who had been living in Santiago for just 15 days, having moved from Santo Domingo to work as a laborer.

Conflicting versions of the events

Mackenzi Jeam, a close friend of the victim, questioned the way the police operation was carried out. According to his account, the workers scattered upon noticing the presence of the officers, at which point the shots that resulted in Colin’s fatal wound were fired.

When they saw that the police arrived, they took off and the shooting started.

This testimony was supported by Overt Junior, another colleague, who reiterated that Colin always maintained a work-oriented conduct and was unaware of any link between him and criminal activities.

The position of the authorities

For its part, the National Police maintains that during the confrontation, a pistol and a cell phone were seized from Colin. The institution identifies him as an alleged suspect in the homicide case of the security guard in Jacagua. After being wounded in the operation, the man was taken to the José María Cabral y Báez hospital, the center where he finally lost his life.

  • The relatives demand that concrete evidence be presented to support the police accusations.
  • A thorough investigation is requested into the circumstances that led to the pursuit of the group of workers.
  • The relatives insist on Colin’s innocence regarding the security guard’s crime.

Currently, the case remains under investigation. While the authorities work on the process, the community of Gary Colin’s loved ones maintains their demand for justice and transparency to clarify the truth about the events that occurred in Jacagua.
