The Queens of the Caribbean go for continental glory and the Los Angeles 2028 dream

The Dominican women’s national volleyball team, our incomparable Queens of the Caribbean, are preparing for a new high-level challenge. Just days after their historic performance at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, the national team is back in action at home with a dual mission: to retain the NORCECA Continental Championship title and secure their qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The “Ricardo Gioriber Arias” Volleyball Palace will once again be the stage for this sporting celebration, which will take place from August 21 to 29. The debut of the local team is scheduled for the opening day against Costa Rica, starting at 8:00 p.m.

Road to Olympic qualification

The tournament is crucial, as the four best-positioned teams will advance to a decisive qualifying phase for a direct spot in the 2028 Olympic Games. The United States, as the host country, already has its place secured, so the rest of the nations will compete with greater intensity for the available ticket.

  • Competition format: The top four teams will play cross-bracket semifinals (1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd).
  • The grand final: The winners of the semifinals will face each other on August 29 for a spot in Los Angeles 2028.
  • 2027 World Cup: The tournament will also determine the qualifiers for the next World Cup.

Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, president of the National Teams Project, emphasized the importance of this event for Dominican volleyball, which is seeking its fifth historic participation in the Olympic Games, following its appearances in Athens 2004, London 2012, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024.

A firm support for Dominican sports

The event organization has the full backing of the Dominican government. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, reiterated the current administration’s commitment to the athletes, whom he defined as a “country brand” that fills the entire nation with pride.

The Queens of the Caribbean are the Queens of the Ministry and the Queens of the country, which is why we have spared no effort in supporting them because they deserve it; they are a country brand and that has great value.

The Queens of the Caribbean arrive at this commitment as the reigning continental monarchs, following their spectacular victory in the 2023 edition. Under the strategic direction of Marcos Kwiek, the team seeks to extend its dominance in the region and gift the Dominican fanbase a new golden page in its successful trajectory.

Tickets to attend the Volleyball Palace are now available through Uepa Tickets, inviting all fans to fill the stands and support our representatives in this important sporting event.
