Dominican Republic positions itself as a strategic hub for regional competitiveness
The Dominican Government reaffirmed its commitment to Central American development and integration during the Ministerial Dialogue on connectivity and integration, recently held in Panama City. The meeting, organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), served as a platform to highlight how the country projects itself as a key ally for the region’s economic growth.
The Dominican delegation, composed of the Ministers of Finance, Magín Díaz, and of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), Yayo Sanz Lovatón, stressed that the country possesses unbeatable conditions to lead in competitiveness. Among the highlighted factors are legal certainty, the stability of public policies, and robust air and maritime connectivity.
We have what few countries in the world have, which is a privileged geographical position, and in this era of nearshoring, having the United States so close, I believe that Central America and the Dominican Republic are key to benefiting from that reality and being able to trade in a world of constant uncertainty and change.

Economic boost and logistical vision
During the event, the nation’s economic dynamism was highlighted, which recorded a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 4.5% during the first half of the year, significantly exceeding the regional average. This performance supports the Government’s vision of advancing towards more efficient logistics integration.
Minister Sanz Lovatón emphasized the need to modernize customs and border systems. According to the official, the goal is to transition toward models that manage risks, share strategic information, and streamline legitimate trade exchange.
