Propeep delivers decent housing in Santo Domingo Este under the “A Hug of Hope” program
The General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep) continues its mission to transform the reality of vulnerable families in the Dominican Republic. On this occasion, the beneficiary was Sandino Rodríguez Pérez, a resident of the El Tamarindo II sector, East Santo Domingo, who left behind years of living in precarious conditions to receive a brand new, fully equipped home.
The old structure, which presented severe damage due to leaks, wooden walls in poor condition, and deteriorated zinc roofs, was replaced by a modern 44-square-meter construction. The new housing unit has two bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a gallery, designed to guarantee decent living conditions.
A commitment to quality of life
Robert Polanco, director of Propeep, led the delivery ceremony, highlighting that the initiative is part of the “A Hug of Hope” program. According to the official, the goal is to assist families facing extreme poverty, in compliance with President Luis Abinader’s guidelines to restore dignity to citizens.
The home we are delivering today is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, blender, beds, dining set, stove, gas tank, and other household items, to ensure the full functionality of the home and a better quality of life for its inhabitants.

Polanco reported that the program maintains a steady pace of deliveries, with nearly 20 homes completed so far this year, which is equivalent to a new house every 15 days. Likewise, he confirmed that the interventions will be extended to other provinces and municipalities in the country.
Testimonial of overcoming
For Sandino Rodríguez Pérez, this change represents a total transformation. The beneficiary recalled the difficulties he faced during the rains, where leaks and the presence of pests made his stay in the old house unsustainable.
Upon receiving the keys to his new home, Rodríguez described the experience as a step “from the ridiculous to the sublime,” thanking the Government and local authorities for allowing him to regain his peace of mind.
For his part, the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio, participated in the event and highlighted the importance of inter-institutional coordination, noting that the true responsibility of public management is to generate a positive and tangible impact on people’s well-being.
