Key requirements for the recognition of new political organizations according to the JCE
The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has reiterated the fundamental guidelines that new political organizations in the Dominican Republic must follow to obtain official recognition. Based on Law 33-18 on Political Parties, Groups, and Movements, the electoral body seeks to ensure that each entity meets the necessary legal standards before integrating into the electoral system.
Critical deadlines for the electoral calendar
One of the most relevant points for interested groups is strict compliance with the schedule. As established, the deadline for submitting the recognition application is 12 months before the elections are held. For the next electoral cycle, the deadline set by the institution is February 20, 2027. Subsequently, the JCE has an evaluation period that ends on October 20, 2027, the deadline for issuing a final decision on the submitted application.
Documentary and operational requirements
- Citizen validation: Organizations must present signatures supporting their proposal, equivalent to 2% of the valid votes cast in the last election, organized by street and sector in both physical and digital formats.
- Physical infrastructure: It is mandatory to have active premises and operational provisional boards. Political parties must prove their presence in each municipality and maintain a main headquarters in Santo Domingo or the National District.
- Financial transparency: The submission of an income and expenditure budget is required, along with an annual financial projection that covers up to election day.
- Identity and statutes: Applicants must formalize their statutes, declaration of principles, and the design of their symbols, avoiding the use of patriotic elements, names of national heroes, or designs that create confusion with already existing organizations.
Compliance with these requirements is essential to guarantee transparency and legitimacy in the formation of new organizations that aspire to participate in the Dominican political and electoral system.

Current legislation clearly distinguishes the scope of each political entity. While political parties have a national character, political groups limit their radius of action to provincial or municipal levels, and political movements focus exclusively on the municipal sphere. This regulatory framework ensures a clear order within the democratic system of the Dominican Republic.
