Blow to micro-trafficking in La Romana: Hundreds of portions of illicit substances seized
In a continuous effort to strengthen citizen security and combat micro-trafficking in the Eastern region, agents of the National Police carried out a successful preventive operation in the Caleta sector, La Romana province, achieving the seizure of a considerable amount of controlled substances.
The intervention was executed in a coordinated manner by personnel from the Operational Department, the Rapid Action unit, and members of the Preventive Police. These law enforcement forces carried out a strategic deployment across various streets and key sectors of the town to reduce pockets of crime.
Seizure details
After a thorough inspection of the area, the authorities managed to remove a total of 421 portions of alleged narcotics from the streets, detailed as follows:
- 84 portions of a substance presumably marijuana.
- 337 portions of material presumed to be crack.
In addition to the illicit substances, the agents seized cash presumed to be from the illegal sale of drugs, totaling RD$1,250 Dominican pesos, distributed in bills of different denominations.
The institution of order reaffirms its commitment to maintaining an active presence in the communities, executing targeted operations to anticipate risk situations and guarantee social peace in La Romana.
One person detained in custody
As a direct result of this police action, a 19-year-old man was placed under arrest. The detainee is currently at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the entity that will determine the corresponding legal measures for his alleged connection to the seized substances.
