Margarita Cedeño leaves the door open to her future political aspirations
The former Vice President of the Republic, Margarita Cedeño, has generated expectations regarding her return to the electoral arena after hinting that she does not rule out running in future processes. During her attendance at the Senate of the Republic, where she participated in an act of recognition for Monsignor Ramón Benito de la Rosa y Carpio, the leader of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) responded with a “let’s see what happens” when asked about her political plans.
Although he avoided confirming an immediate presidential candidacy, his statements keep the possibility of a new bid alive, recalling his previous trajectory in seeking the presidential nomination for the purple organization.
Assessment of the PLD’s internal democracy
When questioned about the current situation of the PLD, Cedeño highlighted the importance of the consultation mechanisms that the party is implementing to measure popular support for its political figures with a view to the 2028 electoral cycle.

The former vice president emphasized that, after concluding the internal processes, the party’s primary objective must be to consolidate a solid and competitive candidacy that manages to connect with the needs of the national electorate.
Internal electoral landscape in the PLD
The PLD continues to structure its political roadmap. For next October 18, an internal consultation has been scheduled where various candidates will seek to measure their level of popularity. The ballot for this process includes the participation of figures such as Francisco Javier García, Luis de León, Manfred Mata, Gonzalo Castillo, and Francisco Domínguez Brito.
For its part, the party’s senior leadership, led by Danilo Medina, has urged the membership and supporters to join this democratic day en masse, fostering free support for the various pre-candidates.
In contrast, Abel Martínez, who has also expressed his presidential aspirations, has decided not to be part of this specific consultation, opting to compete later for the final nomination against whoever is elected in the October process.
