The Senate of the Republic pays tribute to Monsignor Ramón Benito de la Rosa y Carpio
In a solemn ceremony held this Wednesday, the Senate of the Dominican Republic granted a special recognition to Monsignor Ramón Benito de la Rosa y Carpio, honoring his long career of service, his dedication to the Catholic Church, and his significant contributions to the strengthening of values in Dominican society.
The proposal was led by the senator for La Altagracia province, Rafael Barón Duluc (Cholitín), who highlighted the relevance of this tribute within the framework of Bible Month and on the eve of the 87th birthday of the prominent religious figure, which will be celebrated this coming September 19th.
Today we recognize a priest, a bishop, an educator, a writer, and a communicator. But, above all, we recognize a servant. A truly great life is not measured solely by the positions held or the titles received. It is measured by the people shaped, the consciences guided, the institutions strengthened, and the seeds that are left sown.

A legacy of national impact
During the event, the active participation of De la Rosa and Carpio in the nation’s fundamental debates was highlighted, addressing critical issues such as education, social justice, environmental protection, the family, and democratic institutionality. Their influence has extended beyond the pulpits, reaching the citizenry through their books, articles, and radio and television programs.
The President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, highlighted how the monsignor knew how to adapt to modern times, mentioning his work during the COVID-19 pandemic. During that period, the clergyman used technology as an essential tool to maintain his message of hope and guidance to Dominican families, despite health restrictions.
A trajectory of more than six decades
Monsignor Ramón Benito de la Rosa y Carpio, born in 1939 in Higüey, has dedicated more than 60 years to ecclesiastical service since his priestly ordination in 1965. His resume includes academic and pastoral milestones of great relevance, such as:
- Rectory of the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia and the San Pablo and Santo Tomás de Aquino seminaries.
- Performance of strategic functions in the Latin American Episcopal Council (Celam).
- Bishop of the Diocese of Our Lady of Altagracia in Higüey and Metropolitan Archbishop of Santiago de los Caballeros.
- Advanced academic training with specialized studies in Rome, Paris, and Bogotá.
After receiving the distinction, the prelate expressed his deep gratitude to the Upper House, reiterating his ongoing commitment to the ethical and spiritual well-being of the Dominican Republic, a nation to which he has dedicated his life with passion and unwavering dedication.
