Los Mina’s Leñeras and Sabana Perdida’s Caribes remain undefeated in the 2026 Women’s TBS

The Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS Femenino 2026) of the Santo Domingo Province experienced an intense day this Friday, consolidating the dominance of the Leñeras de Los Mina and the Caribes de Sabana Perdida, who remain firm with a 2-0 record at the start of the regular series.

Resounding triumph for the Leñeras

Las Leñeras de Los Mina achieved their second consecutive victory by defeating the Cotorras de Villa Duarte 91-76. The winning team featured an outstanding collective performance, marked by three players who recorded double-doubles:

  • Cesarina Capellán: 27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
  • Patricia Sosa: 23 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Karla Aquino: 13 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Cotorras team, which now has two losses, Yamel Abreu led the attack with 27 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, followed by Wendely Guillén with 10 points.

Caribes prevail in a close duel

In the other match of the day, the Caribes de Sabana Perdida defeated the Calero club with a final score of 83-81. The game was defined by a balanced offense led by Yadira Polanco, who finished with 28 points and eight rebounds, while Melany Japa was key with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Despite the effort of Calero, who had in Yendry Acosta their top performer with 34 points and nine rebounds, and in Katherine Cena a great ally with 25 points, the Villa Duarte team could not overcome the score.

Tournament details

The tournament, which is held at the Virgilio Frías club sports center in Ensanche Isabelita, is organized by the Santo Domingo Province Basketball Association (Abasado), presided over by William Cabral Lugo. The 2026 edition is dedicated to the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, and is supported by the Seaboard Clean Energy Cup, under the direction of the Organizing Committee headed by congresswoman Patricia Núñez.
