Mourning in Santiago: Noah José Tapia, the boy who was waiting for a heart transplant, passes away
The Santiago community is in mourning after the death of Noah José Tapia was confirmed this Tuesday, a little boy of just eight years old who was fighting a tough battle against dilated cardiomyopathy. The minor remained admitted to the Dr. Arturo Grullón Regional University Children’s Hospital, where his health condition had deteriorated critically.
Noah, whose heart condition urgently required a transplant, became a symbol of hope and struggle over the last few weeks. His family had undertaken a tireless public campaign to obtain the necessary support to allow his transfer to a specialized medical center abroad, where he could receive the highly complex treatment essential to save his life.
A desperate call for life
His father, Junio Antonio Tapia, had detailed on several occasions the gravity of the situation, noting that the minor had been under intensive medical supervision for nearly two months. In an attempt to expedite bureaucratic and medical processes, the family formally requested the intervention of President Luis Abinader and First Lady Raquel Arbaje, in the hope of finding a solution in time.
Noah’s passing has caused deep dismay in society, which remained attentive and supportive in the face of his parents’ plea to obtain the necessary medical assistance to give him a chance at recovery.
