Public Ministry reveals that Jean Alain Rodríguez attempted to negotiate a plea deal
The judicial process facing former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez continues to generate reactions in the legal sphere. Deputy Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso recently revealed that the former official attempted to reach an agreement with the Public Ministry, a proposal that was formally presented in writing and subsequently rejected by the prosecuting body.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office never offered a plea deal to that gentleman; that gentleman did offer a plea deal to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and he did so in writing.

Reynoso clarified that, by provision of the Criminal Procedure Code, it is not possible to disclose the details of the proposal, since as it was not finalized, it remains under seal. Likewise, the magistrate emphasized that the amount of evidence collected against Rodríguez is immense and sufficient to support multiple convictions.
Public Ministry’s defense against questioning
Faced with the defense’s accusations regarding alleged tampering with digital evidence, the Director General of Prosecution, Wilson Camacho, stepped forward to clarify the technical doubts. Camacho explained that the presence of compressed files on the presented hard drive is a standard practice that allows for the optimization of storage for large volumes of information, categorically rejecting any irregularity.
The official highlighted the robustness of the file, underlining the following key points regarding the investigation:
- The case has 34 different lines of investigation.
- During the preliminary hearing, 29 people admitted to the charged facts.
- The Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains that the former attorney general has attempted to evade the judicial process through various legal strategies.
Expectation regarding the court’s decision
National attention is now focused on the Second Collegiate Court of the National District, which is scheduled to issue its ruling next Monday, August 17. On this date, it will be determined whether the request for the extinction of the proceedings filed by Jean Alain Rodríguez’s defense is appropriate or if, on the contrary, the trial will continue its usual course toward the next stages.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains its firm stance, asserting that there are no legal grounds to declare the dismissal of the case and reaffirming its commitment to carry one of the most significant judicial processes in the country’s recent history to its ultimate consequences.
