Juan Soto returns to the Mets lineup at a key moment of the season
Star Dominican outfielder Juan Soto has been officially activated by the New York Mets, marking his long-awaited return to the diamond after overcoming an injury that kept him sidelined since July 24th. The New York team made the decision this Saturday, reintegrating the slugger into their main roster.
Soto, who was dealing with a left calf strain suffered during a matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, successfully completed a high-intensity training session at Citi Field. This progress allowed management to forgo sending him on a Minor League rehab assignment, opting for his immediate reinstatement.
A strategic move for the offense
To make room on the active roster, the organization decided to send infielder Eric Wagaman to Triple-A Syracuse. This move underscores the Mets’ urgency to have the offensive production of Soto, who has been a cornerstone of the team throughout the campaign.
The Dominican batter has played 84 games this season, in which he has a .283 batting average, a .408 on-base percentage, and a .539 slugging percentage, with 21 home runs and 52 runs batted in.
The impact of his return
This injury marked the second time this year that the Dominican player had to be placed on the injured list, after having faced similar discomfort in his right calf during the month of April. However, the player remained optimistic about his recovery, meeting the necessary deadlines to rejoin in the final stretch of the schedule.
Soto’s arrival comes at a decisive stage for New York. Although the team has recorded a 13-9 performance since the trade deadline, they are going through a three-game losing streak, so the outfielder’s presence is vital to stabilize the offense and keep the metropolitan team’s postseason aspirations alive.
