Individual involved in attack against Migration patrol in Villa Mella brought to justice
The Dominican authorities have proceeded legally against Danny Norberto Díaz Brito, who was identified as one of the main individuals responsible for a violent ambush perpetrated against a unit of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in the Villa Mella sector.
The defendant faces charges of inciting violence and obstructing the work of immigration inspectors. According to reports, Díaz Brito used his own vehicle to block the path of the official van, preventing the team from leaving the scene while they were being attacked with stones, sticks, and machetes.
Incident details
The altercation was recorded last Wednesday, August 26, during a migration interdiction operation. The conflict began when agents stopped a motorcycle occupied by two Haitian citizens, one of whom had irregular migration status. Following this procedure, a group of people attacked the DGM personnel.
The officers, finding themselves cornered in a dead-end street, had to maneuver in reverse under a hail of blunt objects to safeguard their lives. The attack left material and physical consequences:
- Significant damage to the official unit, including broken windows and dents.
- An agent from the Migration Intelligence Directorate sustained trauma to the lumbar, pelvic, and abdominal regions.
- The affected officer was rushed to the Ney Arias Lora Hospital to receive specialized medical attention.
The General Directorate of Migration reiterates that any aggression or obstruction against its agents will be brought before the corresponding Prosecutor’s Office so that the investigating courts may impose coercive measures in accordance with the facts.
Following the events, Díaz Brito was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Santo Domingo East. The file includes the flagrant offense report, photographic and audiovisual records, medical certificates of the assaulted officer, and a seized cell phone, elements that will serve as the basis for the judicial process in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code.
