Weather forecast: Indomet warns of downpours and high temperatures in the country
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued its official report for this Tuesday, projecting a day marked by a combination of local showers, thunderstorms, and hot conditions across much of the national territory. The influence of a trough in the upper levels of the troposphere will be the main factor favoring atmospheric instability during the afternoon.
Precipitation details
During the morning, the weather outlook will show a mostly sunny sky across much of the country, with the exception of some areas of the Caribbean coast such as San Cristóbal, Peravia, Azua, and Barahona, where isolated showers are expected. However, the situation will change by the afternoon:
- Local downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and possible wind gusts are expected.
- The provinces with the highest probability of receiving this rainfall are La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Dajabón, San Juan, and Elías Piña.
- The precipitation could continue into the early hours of the night due to wind drift.
Recommendations for extreme heat
Temperatures will continue to be a factor of concern for the population, with highs ranging between 32 °C and 34 °C. Given the high heat index, Indomet reiterates the necessary preventive measures to avoid health complications:
It is essential to stay hydrated by consuming water frequently, wearing light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
A special call is made to protect the most vulnerable groups, such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly, ensuring they remain in ventilated and cool areas.
Conditions in Greater Santo Domingo
For the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo (North, West, and East), skies with scattered clouds and sunny periods are expected, interspersed with slight increases in cloudiness that could lead to passing showers. Temperatures in the capital will remain in a range of 23 °C to 25 °C for the lows, while the highs will reach 32 °C to 34 °C.
Cyclone surveillance
On another note, meteorological authorities are keeping a low-pressure area located in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico under strict observation. This system currently has an 80% probability of cyclonic development, both for the next 48 hours and for the next seven-day period, so citizens are advised to stay attentive to official updates from Alofoke Deportes.
