Fire at Las Terrenas landfill raises environmental concerns
The municipality of Las Terrenas, in Samaná, is once again facing an environmental crisis after a fire was reported at its municipal landfill. The incident caused a dense plume of smoke that spread rapidly through the surroundings, affecting air quality and causing concern among residents and visitors in the area.
Faced with the emergency, units from the Fire Department mobilized immediately to carry out suppression and flame control efforts, managing to mitigate the direct impact of the fire. However, this new episode has once again brought to the table the urgent need to implement structural improvements in the maintenance and management of solid waste at the site.
Demanding definitive solutions to the recurrence of fires
The situation has raised alarms regarding public health risks, especially for the inhabitants of surrounding communities, who are the most exposed to the harmful effects of constant smoke.
