Jean Luis Rodríguez assumes the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings

In a strategic move within the government, President Luis Abinader has appointed Jean Luis Rodríguez as the new head of the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED). This change seeks to bring a new dynamism to the management of housing and public infrastructure policies in the country.

Rodríguez, who had been performing outstanding work at the head of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), assumes this new responsibility with the endorsement of a management marked by modernization and operational efficiency. During his time at APORDOM, he led key projects for the strengthening of national port infrastructure and the sustained boost to cruise tourism.

A track record focused on results

Since his arrival in public administration in August 2020, Jean Luis Rodríguez demonstrated technical and political capability. His time at the Port Authority, where he also served as director of the General Coordinating Office of the RD Vial Trust, allowed him to consolidate a comprehensive vision regarding the development of infrastructure works.

  • Promotion of the modernization of Dominican commercial ports.
  • Development and rehabilitation of tourist and fishing piers nationwide.
  • Strategic management of public trusts for the development of critical infrastructure.

Rodríguez’s appointment to the MIVHED underscores the importance the Government places on resolving the population’s housing needs and the transparent execution of public buildings.

Challenges and priorities in the MIVHED

Upon taking the reins of the MIVHED, the new minister faces the challenge of ensuring continuity for the housing construction and improvement programs that represent a central pillar of President Abinader’s agenda. Urban development and the optimization of living conditions for Dominican families stand as the primary goals of his new administration.

With this appointment, the Executive Branch reaffirms its commitment to administrative efficiency, placing a figure with proven experience in public works management at the head of one of the most vital institutions for the country’s progress.
