Víctor “Ito” Bisonó assumes the Dominican Foreign Ministry in new cabinet movements

In the framework of the start of a new government term, President Luis Abinader has made official the appointment of Víctor “Ito” Bisonó as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic. Bisonó assumes the position replacing Roberto Álvarez, marking a key strategic move for the current administration.

Bisonó has a long-standing political and administrative career. Before this new assignment, he served as Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, and previously headed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) since 2020. His experience also includes outstanding work as a deputy for the National District, where he accumulated years of work on institutional and commercial issues.

Management challenges and approach

The arrival of Bisonó at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking shape with a vision focused on the revitalization of economic and diplomatic relations. Given his previous experience in the commercial sector, it is expected that his management will boost the promotion of foreign investment and the strengthening of the country’s trade ties.

Among the main challenges that the new foreign minister will have to face are:

  • Strengthening bilateral relations with strategic allies.
  • Constant defense of national interests in international organizations.
  • Follow-up on the foreign agenda with the United States, Haiti, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
  • Protection and assistance for Dominicans residing abroad.

Bisonó’s vast experience in the economic sphere and his political management capacity will be fundamental to address the complex diplomatic agenda that the Dominican Republic has ahead in this new governmental stage.

With this appointment, the Executive Branch seeks to inject new dynamism into foreign policy, placing at the head of the institution a figure with proven maneuvering capacity in State affairs.
