Dominican Republic consolidates itself as a benchmark in border security and military industry
The Dominican Republic has captured international attention following the notable progress recorded in its border zone and the strengthening of its military industry. During an official tour of Dajabón, President Luis Abinader hosted his Honduran counterpart, Nasry Asfura Zablah, who described the Dominican actions as a model to follow for the entire Caribbean and Central American region.
The Honduran leader highlighted the importance of the intelligent perimeter fence and the technological deployment implemented by the Dominican Government, stressing that national sovereignty is a non-negotiable pillar for any State.

Technology and regional cooperation
One of the points that most impressed the Honduran delegation was the capacity of the local military industry. President Abinader reiterated his willingness to make the technological advances and equipment produced in the country available to friendly nations, such as Honduras, fostering a scheme of mutual cooperation.
“This military industry that we have seen is an industry that we place at the service of our friends. We would like us to be able to participate together to obtain the necessary technology for the external and internal security of our countries,” stated the Dominican head of state.
“Strong Border” Strategy
The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, offered details on the comprehensive strategy “Strong Border, Where the Homeland Begins,” implemented since 2020. The results include:
- Construction of 55 kilometers of perimeter fencing at critical points.
- Implementation of 1,500 solar streetlights and fiber optics for real-time monitoring.
- Autonomous drone network controlled from the C5I.
- Deployment of 11,000 soldiers with enhanced patrolling capabilities.
- Significant reduction in crimes such as livestock and vehicle theft in the area.
In addition to infrastructure, the minister highlighted savings of 30% to 40% in military spending thanks to the local assembly of armored vehicles and ambulances, as well as the production of uniforms. The expansion plan continues with the construction of new checkpoints, airfields, and the strengthening of vocational schools in the border area.
The visit concluded with the commitment of both leaders to continue strengthening economic and commercial ties, promoting investments that generate a positive impact and mutual benefit for the Dominican and Honduran peoples.
