Network of influence and use of public resources denounced in the “Corpo” judicial case in Cotuí

Communicator Hansel García has uncovered a complex web of political influence surrounding the judicial process against José Antonio García Ramírez, known in the political sphere as “Corpo.” The leader, linked to Comedero Arriba and Cotuí, has been convicted in two instances for sexual assault crimes, sparking an intense debate over the use of power structures to attempt to evade justice.

Control from prison and management of public funds

According to the details provided by the analyst, García Ramírez’s political consolidation took place within the ranks of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in Comedero Arriba. After the 2020 elections, he assumed the position of Treasurer of the local City Council, managing a budget that exceeded 14 million pesos. Most alarmingly, according to the complaint, after being arrested at the end of that year, the accused continued to exercise control over the municipal administration from prison.

His status as an important political leader of that district has been highly decisive in this process, and he has used his political capital to try to evade justice… even after being arrested, he continued as treasurer and managing the city hall from jail, receiving visits from employees and directing from prison.

The journalist emphasized that the massive mobilizations observed at the courts are not spontaneous gestures of support, but the result of systematic pressure on the public payroll. City hall employees are allegedly being forced to attend the hearings to back the convicted individual, transforming judicial sessions into acts of political proselytism.

Intimidation and financial offers to the family

One of the critical points revealed by Alofoke Deportes is the pressure exerted on the victim’s circle. Testimonies indicate that the mayor of Comedero Arriba, Martín Rosa, allegedly visited the victim’s mother to offer her a sum of money in exchange for dropping the complaint.

When Corpo was put in jail, the mayor came to my house with a delegation to propose a financial settlement so that they would just drop it… The mayor himself was so cynical that he told me to my face to think about Corpo’s father, the girl’s grandfather, because he was very ill.

Testimony of the victim’s mother

Faced with these revelations, García questioned the origin of the funds used to finance these maneuvers and the support mobilizations. The analyst made an urgent call to the Chamber of Accounts and the Dominican Municipal League to audit the management of resources in this district, stressing that the defendant’s defense is attempting to divert attention by labeling the case as an alleged “political persecution.”
