Weather forecast: Intense heat and scattered showers this weekend in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued its updated report for this weekend, highlighting a combination of high temperatures and the incidence of tropical waves over the national territory. During this Saturday morning, skies with scattered clouds and little precipitation are expected across much of the country.
However, the weather scenario will change from midday due to the passage of a tropical wave that will increase humidity. This phenomenon will favor the formation of cloudiness, causing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly affecting Greater Santo Domingo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Juan, Elías Piña, and Dajabón until the beginning of the night.

Temperatures will remain high, with maximums ranging between 34 °C and 36 °C. Given this stifling heat index, Alofoke Deportes recommends that the public follow these preventive measures:
- Maintain constant hydration by drinking water frequently.
- Wear light clothing made of loose-fitting fabrics and light colors.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak intensity hours.
- Pay special attention to children, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to heat stroke.
Monitoring of tropical phenomena
Authorities are keeping the remnants of what was Tropical Storm Dolly, located east of the Lesser Antilles, under observation. Although the probability of it regaining cyclonic strength is low (less than 10%), its effects are expected to generate significant rainfall in the northeastern and northern Caribbean. At the same time, another disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is being monitored which, due to its current trajectory, does not pose a danger to the Dominican Republic.
By Sunday, the tropical wave will move away, giving way to a drier air mass. However, at nightfall, the arrival of new remnants associated with Dolly could increase rainfall in the northeast, southeast, and the Central Mountain Range.

For the National District and the various areas of the capital, the outlook for this Saturday includes significant cloud increases during the afternoon, accompanied by isolated downpours and thunderstorms, especially in Santo Domingo Norte. Minimum temperatures will remain between 24 °C and 26 °C, ensuring a warm night in much of the metropolitan area.
Looking ahead to Monday, an increase in atmospheric instability is expected from the early morning hours, with scattered showers along the northeast and southeast coasts, extending toward the Central Mountain Range and the northern region, where thunderstorms and wind gusts could occur during the afternoon.
