The 6th International Children’s and Young Adult Book Fair Begins at Ágora Mall
Santo Domingo once again becomes the epicenter of literature for new generations with the inauguration of the 6th International Children’s and Youth Book Fair (Feilij2026). The event, which is being held under the slogan “Reading makes you fly,” opened its doors this Tuesday at the Ágora Mall facilities and will remain active until next Sunday.
This initiative, which has now reached six consecutive years of success, is organized by Ediciones Toral and LeaRD, entities committed to promoting the reading habit from childhood. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Juan Carlos Toral, director of the event, underscored the need to foster an environment where books are a daily element in homes.
We are also trying to raise awareness among parents and teachers that what is important is reading. One of the things we must do as a country is to give away more books and have them at home so that children can easily access them.

A space for learning and culture
The first level of Ágora Mall has been transformed into a cultural meeting point where attendees will be able to enjoy a varied agenda that includes storytelling, theater performances, and specialized conferences. Beyond promoting reading, the fair boosts cultural tourism and generates business and employment opportunities in the local creative sector.
Toral emphasized that the country is going through a crucial stage for children’s literature, where strengthening the bond between young people and books is fundamental for social development. According to the organizer, reading for pleasure from an early age is a key tool for forming citizens with greater critical capacity and advanced vocabulary.
