Seismic activity in Venezuela: 3.9 magnitude earthquake reported in Aragua state
A 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook the vicinity of La Victoria, in the state of Aragua, northern Venezuela, this Thursday. According to technical reports, the seismic event took place at 8:38 PM local time, located 19 kilometers north of said city with a depth of 5 kilometers. As of the closing of this report, local authorities have not reported any material damage or personal injuries following the event.
Day of seismic movements in the national territory
This earthquake in Aragua adds to a day of high geological activity in the country. Previously, two other seismic events were recorded: one with a magnitude of 3.6 that impacted the city of Mérida and another of 4.2 that had its epicenter in the town of Güiria, in the northeastern area of Venezuela.
Context after the disaster of last June 24th
Concern in the country persists two months after the double earthquake of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that severely affected the state of La Guaira. The official toll shared by Parliament indicates that the number of deaths has risen to 6,509 people.
Human rights organizations have requested that the Venezuelan State publish an updated and transparent registry of the people who still remain missing, given that official information on this matter has not been updated since June 25.
