George Richardson assumes the presidency of CODIA for the 2026-2027 period
Architect George Richardson took office this Friday, August 14, as the new national president of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA). The swearing-in ceremony, which included the new regional authorities and delegations, marked the formal start of the administration for the 2026-2027 period.
The institutional day began with a thanksgiving mass at the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Patronal Temple, in the Colonial City, followed by a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland. The solemn swearing-in ceremony took place subsequently at the Manuel del Cabral Auditorium of the Pedro Mir Library, at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
Management focused on modernization and unity
During his speech, Richardson emphasized that his administration will be governed by the pillars of transparency, modernization, and institutional strengthening. The new head called for union unity, highlighting that, after the electoral process, the common goal must prevail over any previous differences.
As of today, there are no slates. As of today, there is only one team: CODIA.

Main work proposals
Richardson presented an ambitious roadmap focused on the technological and professional evolution of the members. Key initiatives include:
- Continuing education: Creation of the CODIA Virtual Academy and training in artificial intelligence and new technologies.
- Strategic alliances: Management of scholarships with MESCyT and close collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED).
- Labor boost: Launch of a Digital Job Board and a National Job Fair to connect professional talent with the labor market.
- Digital transformation: Implementation of the Smart ID card and comprehensive digitalization of the guild’s services.
- Professional defense: Promotion of a fair salary scale and a frontal fight against the illegal practice of professions.
Action plan for the first 100 days
The new president of CODIA pledged to execute an immediate action plan that includes the creation of a Transparency and Open Data Portal, as well as the National Observatory of Professional Practice. Likewise, Richardson reaffirmed his intention to increase the college’s influence on issues of national interest, such as infrastructure, land use planning, sustainability, and urban planning.
The architect concluded his speech by emphasizing that his goal is to leave a legacy of transformation that lasts beyond his tenure, positioning CODIA as an essential technical benchmark for the development of the Dominican Republic.
