Emmanuel Contreras Case: Coercion hearing against Lenin Núñez will be this Wednesday
The Dominican justice system is preparing to hear this Wednesday the coercive measure against Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León, identified for his involvement in the death of Emmanuel Contreras Medina. The accused, who recently returned to the country, turned himself in to the authorities to answer for the charges brought against him.
Núñez de León has maintained that his return to the Dominican Republic was voluntary after learning of the arrest warrant against him, denying any intention to evade justice. According to his defense, the young man was in the United States under an international student status and asserts that he will present his own version of the events that occurred.
Details of the incident in the Los Praditos sector
The file presented by the Public Ministry details that the incident took place on July 1, 2026, at the La Javilla baseball stadium, in the National District. The meeting was arranged for the purpose of finalizing the sale of an iPhone 15 Pro Max, which had been offered through Facebook Marketplace.
Investigations point to an alleged deception scheme: a third party identified as Joan Manuel Jiménez Medina reportedly contacted the victim offering the same equipment at a lower price, receiving payment via bank transfer. Subsequently, they summoned Contreras Medina to the stadium for the physical delivery of the device.
Upon receiving the device, the victim prepared to leave, but when Núñez de León demanded money, Contreras Medina attempted to flee, believing he was being robbed.
Fatal outcome
According to the indictment, Núñez de León chased the victim, accusing him of being a thief. Upon catching up to him, he allegedly struck him with a bat in the back and another in the head, which caused Contreras to fall to the ground. At that moment, the defendant allegedly took the opportunity to snatch his cell phone.
The tragic episode was witnessed by bystanders and recorded by security cameras in the area. After the attack, Contreras Medina was assisted and transported to the Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital. Despite medical efforts, the young man remained in a coma until his death was confirmed on September 9th.
The victim’s relatives are waiting for the judicial process to move forward and for justice to be served for the loss of their family member, remaining present at the Prosecutor’s Office to closely follow every stage of the case.
