Weather forecast: Trough will bring downpours and thunderstorms to the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a detailed report on the weather conditions for this Wednesday, warning about the incidence of a trough that will affect various parts of the country. The phenomenon is expected to generate local downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts, especially during the course of the afternoon.
Since the early hours of the morning, rains of varying intensity have been recorded on the Atlantic coast, with greater emphasis in the northeast and the Caribbean coast. These precipitations are the result of the combination of the east wind and the presence of the aforementioned trough.
Evolution of precipitation during the afternoon
As the day progresses, the arrival of an air mass with lower moisture content and a slight concentration of Saharan dust is expected. This change will contribute to a gradual decrease in rainfall in the southeastern region. However, Indomet does not rule out the occurrence of local downpours in sectors of Greater Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area, which could continue until the beginning of the night.
The rainfall could be accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, so the population is advised to stay alert to official bulletins regarding possible urban flooding.
Tropical activity surveillance
In addition to the local trough, meteorological authorities are monitoring an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms located about 965 kilometers east of Bermuda. Currently, this system has a 10% chance of cyclonic formation over the next 48 hours and a 30% chance over a seven-day period, moving west/northwest.
Recommendations for extreme heat
The hot environment will continue to be a constant throughout the national territory, with maximum temperatures ranging between 33 °C and 35 °C, while minimums will remain between 24 °C and 26 °C. Given this situation, Alofoke Deportes shares the preventive recommendations from Indomet:
- Drink water constantly to maintain hydration.
- Wear light, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
- Avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- Prioritize the care of children, the elderly, and pregnant women, keeping them in cool and ventilated places.
