Víctor Livio Emmanuel Cedeño Brea is the new Superintendent of Banks

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, made official this Monday the appointment of Víctor Livio Emmanuel Cedeño Brea as the new head of the Superintendency of Banks of the Dominican Republic. The measure was communicated through Decree number 606-26, issued in Santo Domingo.

Institutional handover details

With this provision, Cedeño Brea assumes the responsibility of leading the body in charge of the supervision and regulation of all financial intermediation entities operating in Dominican territory. The official arrives to replace Alejandro Fernández Whipple in the position, who held these functions after having been ratified through Decree 442-24 in August 2024.

Current regulations establish that the Superintendent of Banks is appointed by the Executive Branch for a two-year term, with the authority to be reappointed to their duties provided they meet the legal standards required by Law 183-02, Monetary and Financial.

The official document, dated August 31, 2026, marks the beginning of a new administration at the head of one of the most critical institutions for the nation’s economic and financial stability, ensuring the continuity and compliance of the country’s monetary policies.
