School spots guaranteed for the 2026-2027 period in the Dominican Republic
The Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, reaffirmed this Monday the Government’s commitment to the national educational system, ensuring that all Dominican students will have their space in the classrooms guaranteed for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. During the official opening ceremony, the official highlighted that, despite the logistical challenges inherent in a system that serves more than 2.08 million students in the public sector, solutions are underway.
Faced with questions about the availability of spots and the demands of administrative staff, De Camps emphasized that the priority is to ensure education. “No Dominican student will be left out of the educational system,” the minister pointed out to the media.
Budgetary priorities and labor improvements
Regarding the working conditions of support and administrative staff, the head of Education admitted that there are improvement plans, although he clarified that they will have to wait due to current fiscal priorities. The implementation of the Teacher Performance Evaluation has required a significant investment, which has forced the postponement of other salary and benefit adjustments for administrative staff.
Unfortunately, the reality of the budgetary impact of the teacher performance evaluation forces us to postpone it a little, but it is one of the priorities we have identified to continue dignifying all actors in the system.

School enrollment complaints debunked
On another note, De Camps dismissed the versions circulating about an alleged shortage of school places caused by the enrollment of foreign students. The minister described such allegations as unfounded and reiterated that Dominican public education has as its central axis the total coverage of the country’s citizens.
