A tragic event has shocked Miami International Airport, where an Amazon cargo plane veered off the runway after landing, causing the death of five people. Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz confirmed in a press conference that the accident left five people dead and five others injured. The latter were immediately transported to nearby hospitals to receive specialized medical care.

Rescue operation details

Erica Benitez, chief of staff for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, detailed the complexity of the rescue efforts. More than 60 units were deployed to control a large-scale fire and rescue people who were trapped in vehicles struck by the aircraft after it veered off the runway.

Among the injured, three are in critical condition with a guarded prognosis, while medical staff work tirelessly on their recovery.

The accident occurred at approximately 14:00 local time. Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched exhaustive investigations to determine the exact causes that led the plane to veer off the runway and collide with ground vehicles.
