Government builds five new bypasses to improve mobility

Government promotes ambitious beltway plan to transform road connectivity in the Dominican Republic

With the goal of optimizing traffic flow, reducing travel times, and enhancing efficiency in freight transport, the Dominican government is advancing in the construction of five major strategic bypasses distributed at key points throughout the national territory. This project seeks to decongest urban centers and strengthen the interconnection between the different regions of the country.

The Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, detailed during his participation in the Agenda Semanal program that work is currently concentrated on the bypasses of Navarrete, Los Alcarrizos, Moca, San Francisco de Macorís, and La Otra Banda. These infrastructures are part of a comprehensive plan that has already seen results with the delivery of the Baní bypass and the work carried out in the province of Azua.

Strategic impact of the new routes

One of the most relevant projects is the Navarrete bypass. According to what was stated by President Luis Abinader, this work is fundamental for the regional economy, as it will allow for more agile access to the four provinces of the Northwest Line and to the port of Manzanillo. It is estimated that, currently, drivers lose between 30 and 90 minutes due to congestion in this area, a problem that the new road seeks to eradicate completely.

The execution of these works is vital for the country’s logistical development, allowing cargo transport and citizens to travel more safely and quickly, eliminating bottlenecks in the most populated urban centers.

Regional development and tourism connectivity

• La Otra Banda: This infrastructure will play a crucial role in facilitating the daily transit of thousands of workers traveling from Higüey to the Bávaro-Punta Cana tourist hub.
• Expansion of the plan: The road strategy does not stop at these points; authorities have confirmed that additional interventions are being considered in Esperanza and other key areas to ensure a modern road network.
• Progress figures: The Ministry of Public Works maintains an active pace of work, with more than 950 kilometers of roads under intervention, projecting the delivery of an additional 141 kilometers in the short term.

These actions reaffirm the state’s commitment to the modernization of road infrastructure, a fundamental pillar for improving the quality of life of citizens and increasing the competitiveness of the Dominican Republic in the face of current mobility challenges.
