The legendary Spanish basketball player, Pau Gasol, has been appointed president of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the Milan-Cortina Games. Gasol, who was already a member of this commission since August 2, 2021, after his designation at the Tokyo Olympic Games, will now lead the representation of the athletes in the IOC Executive Commission. This designation significantly reinforces the voice of athletes within the most important Olympic body. Gasol’s Olympic career is impressive, with five participations in the Olympic Games. Silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In addition to his new role as president, Gasol will continue to play important roles within the IOC.
