Juan Soto out with the flu: Mets adjust their lineup

NEW YORK – Dominican outfielder Juan Soto will not be in the New York Mets’ lineup for the second consecutive day due to a flu-like illness, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.

Soto, who already missed Sunday’s game, presented symptoms such as fever, body aches, and difficulty sleeping, which have affected him for several days.

While Soto recovers, Nick Morabito will occupy left field and Carson Benge will act as designated hitter in the first game of the series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The absence of Soto is a challenge for the Mets, who are already facing other significant absences in their squad.

Before getting sick, Soto was in a good offensive moment, batting .333 in his last seven games, with four home runs and seven RBIs.

The Santo Domingo outfielder has been key in New York’s offense in the 2026 season, accumulating 10 home runs and an OPS of .949.

The Mets will look to improve their offensive performance while awaiting the return of one of their main figures.
