San Francisco welcomes Rafael Devers, who begins a new stage in his career in the Major Leagues as a new Giants player. The official presentation was attended by important figures from the team, including Buster Posey, president of operations, and the legend Barry Bonds.

New Stage for Devers

The 28-year-old Dominican third baseman showed a renewed attitude during the ceremony. He thanked his former organization, the Boston Red Sox, for the opportunity given.

What happened is already in the past. They brought me here to win, and that’s something I like: competing and winning.

Devers, known as “Carita”, expressed his willingness to play in any position the team needs.

Rafael Devers: “They are my bosses and I play where they put me.”

Devers’ words contrast with past controversies, when he refused to change positions in Boston. Now, he seems focused on his new role.

Defined Role

Giants manager Bob Melvin revealed that Devers will debut as the designated hitter and third batter in the offensive lineup. In addition, a defensive reconditioning process will be initiated so that he can eventually play in the starting lineup. It will be a day-to-day process, because he hasn’t played defense this year. Buster Posey explained that the change was negotiated over several weeks and finalized after intense conversations with the Red Sox. Devers admitted that the change took him by surprise, but he takes it with maturity and commitment. It was a normal day until the news arrived. I took it like a man. I appreciate that they have changed me and I come to give the best of myself.
