Cibao Pickleball Cup: A Resounding Success in its First Edition
Santiago de los Caballeros – The Cibao Pickleball Cup, held from February 6th to 8th at the Teniclub facilities, established itself as a key sporting event for pickleball in the Dominican Republic. The competition brought together more than 200 players from various regions of the country, marking a milestone in the promotion of this discipline. The event was organized by a team dedicated to the development of pickleball, led by Luis Veras, Juan Osvaldo Suárez, Quilvio Hernández, Mirtha De Marchena, Yhammina Dickson, Yannel Dickson, and Carolina Viñas. Their teamwork ensured a high-quality sporting experience. The opening ceremony was attended by Elvis Duarte, President of the Dominican Pickleball Federation, and Mr. Julio César Martínez, President of the Pickleball Association. Both highlighted the importance of these types of events for the growth of pickleball nationwide. The tournament attracted athletes and fans from Sosúa, Las Terrenas, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo, demonstrating the national reach of pickleball. 18 divisions were contested, both men’s and women’s, and a team modality with five participating teams, adding excitement to the competition. In addition, over USD 3,000 in prizes were awarded.With outstanding organization and an excellent response from the sports community, the Cibao Pickleball Cup sets a precedent for future editions, driving the development and projection of pickleball in the Dominican Republic.The main objective of the Cibao Pickleball Cup was to promote the growth of pickleball in the Dominican Republic, encourage competitive sport, and create a memorable experience.
