Boston Red Sox Bolster Infield with Key Trade
The Boston Red Sox have made a strategic move on the eve of the start of Spring Training, acquiring talented infielder Caleb Durbin in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers.
This trade, involving six players, seeks to strengthen the team’s infield ahead of the 2026 season. Durbin, a finalist for the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2025, arrives in Boston with the promise of bringing versatility and defensive solidity.
Exchange Details
In this agreement, the Red Sox receive a package that includes:
- INF Caleb Durbin
- INF Andruw Monasterio
- INF Anthony Seigler
- 2026 Draft Selection (Competitive Balance Round B)
While the Brewers get:
- LZ Kyle Harrison
- INF David Hamilton
- LZ prospect Shane Drohan
Caleb Durbin: A Versatile Reinforcement
Durbin, 25, proved his worth last season with an offensive line of .256/.334/.387, playing mainly at third base, second base, and shortstop. His ability to perform in multiple positions fits perfectly with Boston’s strategy, which seeks flexibility in its infield.
With Trevor Story and Willson Contreras in fixed roles, the second and third base positions are shaping up as areas of rotation. Durbin joins a group that includes Marcelo Mayer, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Romy González, all capable of covering multiple positions.
Despite his stature, Durbin had a significant impact on the Brewers, champions of their division in 2025. In 445 at-bats, he hit 11 home runs, 25 doubles, stole 18 bases and accumulated a bWAR of 2.8, standing out for his control of the strike zone and his offensive consistency.
Kyle Harrison: The Key Piece for Milwaukee
The left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, a former highly-regarded prospect, is the main piece moving to Milwaukee. Harrison arrived in Boston in a previous trade and, despite his potential, did not have a guaranteed spot on the Opening Day roster due to the depth of young starters with contractual control.
Since his debut in 2023, Harrison has recorded an ERA of 4.39 in 42 appearances, 37 as a starter.
Additional Infield Depth
Venezuelan Andruw Monasterio, 28, brings experience to Boston’s infield. In 2025, he played 68 games with Milwaukee, batting .270, with nine doubles, four home runs and 16 RBIs, in addition to playing in several positions and occasionally in the outfield.
Anthony Seigler, 26, arrives as a depth option. He participated in 34 games with the Brewers in his first season in the Major Leagues. The left-handed hitter and ambidextrous pitcher was originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 2018 Draft.
With this move, the Red Sox continue to strengthen their roster with an eye towards a 2026 season in which the flexibility and depth of the infield will be key pieces.
