Raúl Asencio Acknowledges Error in Sexual Video Case
Real Madrid footballer Raúl Asencio has admitted his mistake in showing a sex video to a friend in 2023. The video was recorded without consent by former youth academy teammates Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García, according to a letter of apology sent to one of the affected young women.
Margarita Alejo, the complainant’s lawyer, confirmed that her client accepted the formal apologies and withdrew the accusation against Asencio. This decision is based on the player’s explicit acknowledgment of the facts and financial compensation.
The complainant who withdrew the accusation was of legal age at the time of the events. However, the lawyer maintains the accusation against Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García, who no longer belong to Real Madrid’s youth academy.
The events occurred on June 15, 2023, in a cabin at a beach club in Amadores, Gran Canaria. The young women involved, one of whom was a minor at the time, claim that they were recorded without their consent and that the videos were disseminated in WhatsApp groups.
Raúl Asencio, although present at the beach club, did not participate in the sexual encounter. His involvement arises later, when he received one of the videos and showed it to a third person.
In a WhatsApp message recovered by the Civil Guard, Asencio acknowledged having shown the video, citing that Juan Rodríguez had sent it to him.
Despite the decision of one of the private accusations, Asencio still faces charges from the other complainant and the Prosecutor’s Office, which requests two and a half years in prison for crimes against privacy.
The Prosecution requests a more severe sentence for Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez, and Andrés García, with a request for four years and seven months in prison for recording and disseminating the sexual images without consent, including the distribution of child pornography.
The case is pending to determine the court and the trial date.
