PORT ST. LUCIE, USA – Ronny Mauricio, the talented Dominican infielder, was reassigned to the Triple-A affiliate Syracuse by the New York Mets this Thursday. This decision is part of the strategic moves of the organization ahead of the start of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Mauricio joins a group of four players who failed to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. Among the team’s decisions also included the departure of pitcher Joey Gerber, while pitchers Brandon Waddell and Mike Baumann were reassigned to the minor league camp. The depth of the Mets’ infield has played a crucial role in this decision. With the infield structure already defined, including Bo Bichette as shortstop in the temporary absence of Francisco Lindor, opportunities for Mauricio were limited. Furthermore, Vidal Bruján’s presence on the roster also contributed to reducing Mauricio’s chances.

Looking to regain your level

At one point, Mauricio was considered one of the most promising prospects in the organization. However, his development was affected by an injury to the ligaments in his right ankle suffered in the Dominican Republic, which kept him out of action for the entire 2024 season. In his career in the Major Leagues, Mauricio has participated in 61 games with the Mets, recording a batting average of .226. With this reassignment, Mauricio will start the season in Triple-A with the goal of regaining his best form and seeking an opportunity to return to the big team during the season.
