UASD implements security protocol in the face of possible natural phenomena
With the goal of guaranteeing the integrity of its entire university community, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has activated a preventive protocol for the 2026-2027 academic cycle. This initiative arises in light of the growing concern regarding the occurrence of seismic events and cyclonic activity in the region.
The planning of this strategy was led by Rector Jorge Asjana David, who held a working meeting with the institution’s Contingency Commission and the Director General of the Civil Defense, Juan Salas. The central purpose is to establish clear action protocols for students, faculty, and administrative staff in the face of emergencies caused by earthquakes or atmospheric phenomena.
Preventive measures and safety culture
University authorities indicated that the decision to reinforce these response plans is in response to recent seismic movements recorded in neighboring countries such as Venezuela and Colombia, added to the current hurricane season. As an essential part of the plan, a Coordinating Committee has been formed to oversee the execution of preventive measures and manage response capacity in the event of any contingency.
