Trial against Orlando Ramírez Medina for gender-based violence and human trafficking begins this Friday in San Pedro
This Friday, August 28, the judicial system of San Pedro de Macorís will begin the trial on the merits against Orlando Ramírez Medina, who faces serious accusations of alleged physical, psychological, and verbal violence, in addition to alleged links to human trafficking crimes against a Venezuelan citizen.
The legal process is based on resolution number 341-2022-SRES-00384, issued by the First Instruction Court of the Judicial District of San Pedro de Macorís. The court ordered the opening of a trial after finding sufficient evidence linking the defendant to the violation of article 309 of the Dominican Penal Code and several articles of Law 137-03, which regulates the Illicit Trafficking of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons.
Case details and evidence
The victim, who is currently under the Public Ministry’s victim and witness protection program, was allegedly subjected to an environment of constant threats and forced confinement. According to the family’s testimony, the woman was not only restricted in her freedom of movement, but her legal documentation, including her passport, was also withheld to prevent her from leaving the country.

In one of the images, a hematoma is observed on the victim’s leg, which, according to those close to her, constitutes irrefutable proof of the violence exercised by the defendant.
Cry for justice
From Venezuela, the father of the victim has made an urgent appeal to the Dominican authorities for the case to be handled with the rigor required by law. The family maintains that the physical integrity of the woman and her five-year-old son was at constant risk due to the actions of Ramírez Medina.
