The UASD begins the August-December 2026 academic semester with enthusiasm

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) formally opened its August-December 2026 academic semester, welcoming thousands of students who are beginning or continuing their professional training at the state academy. The event, held in the Aula Magna, was attended by the main university authorities, led by rector Jorge Asjana David.

During his speech, Rector Asjana David highlighted the importance of education as the fundamental pillar for personal and collective development. He congratulated the students for having selected the oldest higher education institution in the country, underscoring the university’s commitment to excellence and comprehensive training.

The UASD works tirelessly to be an increasingly inclusive university, offering better services and facilities so that students can overcome academic challenges and acquire the necessary skills to stand out in the labor market.

Commitment to student success

For her part, the Vice Rector for Teaching, Rosel Fernández, emphasized that students represent the essence and reason for the university’s existence. Fernández urged the student community to take advantage of the various spaces for growth offered by the institution, including its cultural groups and academic support networks.

Pedro Martínez (Ponsy), president of the Dominican Students Federation (FED), also spoke at the event, reiterating the organization’s commitment to safeguarding students’ rights and providing them with the necessary support throughout their academic journey.
