Joshua Báez: From a historic debut to a possible Hall of Fame showcase
The Major League debut of Dominican prospect Joshua Báez has not only been memorable, but it has transcended to the point of knocking on the doors of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. After starring in a historic day by hitting three home runs in his first game at the highest level, the spikes he used to achieve the feat have caught the attention of the baseball museum authorities.
What makes this story even more fascinating is that Báez did not have his full gear when he arrived at Wrigley Field. Faced with a lack of proper footwear, his teammate, Puerto Rican Bryan Torres, stepped in to equip him. After an improvised search, they found a pair of size 12 spikes belonging to Blaze Jordan, in addition to accessories borrowed from other staff members and team players.
If you look good, you smell good, you feel good, you play good.

Torres’ philosophy seemed to take effect immediately. In his first at-bat, Báez connected with a 93.4 mph fastball from Matthew Boyd, sending the ball 449 feet. With that confidence, he added two more home runs, consolidating a performance that left the baseball world stunned.
Cooperstown’s interest and the value of the improvised
The impact was such that the Hall of Fame formally requested the acquisition of the items used by the Dominican during his debut. The fact that the shoes have the name Blaze Jordan engraved on them adds an anecdotal touch to the historical piece.
Regarding the possibility of parting with his amulet, Báez was cautious: “I hope I can keep using them. The people from Cooperstown want to take them, but we’ll see what happens,” commented the young player, who prefers to keep his footwear for the moment.
Cardinals manager, the Dominican Óliver Mármol, did not hide his astonishment at Báez’s ability to connect against different types of pitches and to all directions of the field. “It is quite extraordinary,” the strategist stated.
As Báez prepares for the challenge of maintaining his consistency in the Major Leagues, his historic performance already secures a special chapter in the chronicle of the sport, with borrowed spikes that now symbolize the beginning of a career that promises to be unforgettable.
