Welington Castillo highlights Dominican pride after runner-up finish in Kids Caribbean Series

In an emotional display of leadership, manager Welington Castillo gathered his players on the field following the 11-8 loss to Mexico Verde in the grand final of the III Caribbean Kids Series, held in Nayarit, Mexico. Despite falling just short of glory, the strategist urged his young talents to keep their heads held high after an outstanding performance in the tournament.

We are a team. I am proud of each one of you. You guys held it down like men out there.

Welington Castillo, manager of the Dominican Republic.

Castillo took the moment to strengthen the group’s bonds, inviting them to keep the faith and be grateful for the experience lived in the international competition. The leader emphasized that, beyond the final result, the effort displayed in each entry was reason enough to feel satisfied with their performance.

A path of mastery and learning

The Dominican representative reached the decisive duel after an impeccable run. Prior to the final, the Quisqueyan team demonstrated its power by prevailing 7-0 against Mexico Red. In that matchup, the pitching was the protagonist by completing a combined no-hitter, led by the performances of Yemmy Marrero and Isaac Brito.

With this outcome, a historic chapter for Caribbean children’s baseball was closed:

  • Mexico Verde won its first title in the history of the Kids Caribbean Series.
  • The defeat put an end to an impressive 18-game winning streak for the Dominican Republic in the tournament.
  • Despite not achieving the three-peat, the Dominican team once again solidified itself as a regional powerhouse.

Although the result favored Mexico on this occasion, the performance of the Dominican team reaffirms the country’s emerging talent and leaves a solid foundation of learning for the young ballplayers who represented the national colors with dedication on Mexican territory.
