Strengthening the healthcare system: More than 13,000 health professionals integrated into the public network
The National Health Service (SNS) continues its process of expansion and improvement in citizen care. According to recent statements by Julio César Landrón, executive director of the institution, the public network has experienced significant growth in its human capital over the last six years, achieving the integration of more than 7,000 doctors and 6,000 nursing professionals.
This strengthening strategy responds directly to the increase in demand for specialized services and the need to optimize response capacity in hospitals nationwide. According to the official, the Dominican healthcare system is going through a transformation stage where specialization is an absolute priority to guarantee quality care.
New centers and future projections
The SNS expansion plan does not stop here. The institution contemplates the inauguration of 46 new hospitals and health centers, a milestone that will require a new wave of hiring. This personnel, which will include doctors, nurses, and administrative collaborators, will be fundamental to ensure the correct functioning of these facilities and bring high-quality medicine to the communities that need it most.
The healthcare system needs to continue prioritizing the hiring of specialists, because care needs have changed and patients are demanding increasingly specialized services.

Training and guaranteed coverage
To sustain this growth, the SNS has focused its efforts on the following pillars:
- Significant increase in medical residency positions and internships.
- Continuous training of professionals to strengthen public hospitals.
- Consolidation of social security coverage, reaching more than 93% of the Dominican population.
The high rate of medical insurance in the country plays a vital role, as it allows for the financial sustainability of public hospitals, ensuring that services remain operational and accessible to all citizens. With these measures, the SNS reaffirms its commitment to the development of a robust and efficient healthcare infrastructure for the Dominican Republic.
