The province of Monte Plata is dressed in glory following the outstanding participation of its athletes in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The local athletes achieved an impressive haul of 27 medals, reaffirming this region as a true powerhouse and cradle of talent in Dominican sports.

Deputy Jhon Contreras, in a public recognition of this performance, highlighted the value of the five gold, six silver, and 16 bronze medals obtained. According to official data, the municipality of Bayaguana led the provincial contribution with 19 medals, followed by Monte Plata with five, Yamasá with two, and Sabana Grande de Boyá with one.

Today I want to speak with a heart full of joy to recognize the achievements of our athletes from the Monte Plata province, a province that proved why it is the sports capital of the Dominican Republic.

Jhon Contreras, Deputy

Request for sports infrastructure investment

Beyond the praise, the legislator took the opportunity to make a formal appeal to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. Contreras urged Minister Kelvin Cruz to implement an urgent renovation and maintenance program for the province’s sports facilities, with special attention to the Santo Ángel Peguero Multipurpose Center and the Isidro Santana Stadium.

  • Collective achievement: 27 medals obtained thanks to the effort of athletes, coaches, and families.
  • Provincial priority: Improve the conditions of the Santo Ángel Peguero Multipurpose Center, a key piece of the legacy of the 2006 National Games.
  • Future vision: Guarantee adequate spaces so that new generations can continue developing their sports capabilities.

The deputy stressed that this support in infrastructure is the best reward the province can receive after the sacrifice shown by its athletes, who have held the tricolor flag high. Likewise, he positively valued the constant support of the central government towards policies that promote the integral development of young people in the region.

With this recognition, the authorities of Monte Plata seek not only to honor the medalists, but to ensure that the success achieved in Santo Domingo 2026 is the starting point for an era of greater investment and better opportunities for the provincial sports sector.
